How long will the program last?
Most students complete a 20 hour program with 1 to 2 hours of coaching per week, therefore the course will last 10 to 20 weeks. It is possible to arrange an alternative schedule with the agreement of your mentor.
How will my mentor help me with a research project?
Students will complete 20 hours of coaching which includes project ideation to plan project ideas, training to perform a project which may include programming or other analytical skills, help with identifying datasets or performing analysis, and guidance on writing a project report or writeup.
Can I publish my project report?
Many of our students aim to publish their work in student journals, academic journals, conferences, or essay competitions. Publication is dependent on the quality of the report and the review process of the particular journal or competition you submit your report to. If you wish to publish please let your mentor know and they will help you identify target journals, however success is dependent on the quality of your work.
What is the result of a TeachGenesis research project?
During the 20 hour program your mentor will provide coaching to help you develop and design a research project and associated report writeup. Your report will be submitted to TeachGenesis who will grade your work and provide you with a certificate of completion. We encourage all students to further submit their work for publication in student or academic journals, conferences, and competitions.
Do I need prior research experience?
You do not need any prior programming or research experience to apply to our program, however acceptance into the program is competitive. Students without prior research experience should highlight examples of where they have worked independently to solve difficult problems in the context of their other work.
What age groups do you accept into the program?
We accept students aged 14 years or older into our research program, our mentors have worked with students in middle school, all the way up to those in post-graduate education looking to complete a research project with the aim of applying for PhD scholarships.
